Chiara Carucci

IALD ass. Lighting Designer

Acknowledged among the best "40 under 40" at the Lighting Design Awards 2016, Chiara is a lighting designer with unlimited passion for the profession. She holds a Master's Degree from the Politecnico di Milano and has been working in the industry since 2004.
Chiara Carucci is a specialist in the field of urban lighting and participated in large scale projects such as the City Hall of Antwerpen, Belgium, inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage and lighting master plan including but not limited to the City of Örebro and Venice.

Especially since she moved to Stockholm, Chiara recognizes the value and the importance of Light as an inherent inner need of the citizens for social and health reasons. Her design is based on working and life experience. She says: "I've been lucky enough to work on a large variety of projects, with multidisciplinary teams. My favorite aspect of working closely to the architects, is that we can create tailored solutions. An example is Smålandstorget, in Stockholm, where we designed playful reflections, reminding of light filtering through the water".
In 2017, Chiara joined Tengbom, ranked the 4th most innovative architecture firm in the world 2016. They are working on a wide range of projects including corporate buildings, airports and train stations.

As an active campaigner to raise awareness of the profession, Chiara co-founded the group Italian Lighting Designers and Lighting-Related Organizations, for the UN International Year of Light, IYL2015. As a follow up, she released the booklet "We are Light!" with Martina Frattura.
Since 2018, Chiara Carucci is the coordinator of the IALD Nordic Chapter, along with Kristin Bredal, Norway, and JØrgen Kjer, Denmark. The Chapter's main objectives include strengthening the lighting community and increasing awareness of the profession of Lighting Design.
