Satu is a lighting designer and urban designer with a particular interest in the city at night. She works at the London-based urban design practice, Publica, and previously trained as an architectural lighting designer, working on a wide variety of public and private projects within the retail, heritage, public realm and art sectors for commercial clients, developers, local authorities, charities and community organisations.
Before joining Publica, Satu spent almost a decade at Speirs + Major, including five years leading a team that specialised in public realm lighting and focusing on a range of lighting strategies, masterplans and public realm design projects in the UK and abroad. Satu has written for urban design press, given lectures in the UK and abroad on light art, lighting design and cities at night and conducted night walks for the London Festival of Architecture, LSE Cities, the Wellcome Trust and the City of London. She has delivered training sessions for Natural England, primary school children and local authorities and has contributed to research into the governance and social aspects of public lighting. Alongside her work at Publica, Satu collaborates with artists and designers on various architectural, performance and installation art projects.
